The former police chief of Chongqing, which triggered one of the most sensational political scandals in China for years, was "recently" indicted by a court in Chengdu, announced Wednesday, September 5, the official agency New China. Wang Lijun, who was vice mayor of Chongqing and the local police chief, is pursued by justice for misuse of the law to his advantage, defection, corruption and abuse of power.
He took refuge briefly in February at the American Consulate in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province in the southwest of the country before, finally, to go to the authorities. This action had caused the downfall of his former mentor, the leader of the Communist Party in Chongqing and rising figure of Chinese politics, Bo Xilai, and the arrest of the latter's wife, Gu Kailai, who was sentenced in August the death penalty with a two-year reprieve in 2011 for the murder of Neil Heywood, a British family friend Bo.
At the hearing, Gu Kailai said Wang Lijun be informed of his plan to kill the British, because he had threatened her son. Mr. Wang had offered to kill Neil Heywood simulating a drug raid before changing his mind. Once the crime, she told him the details, he recorded a narrative and the floor that used at trial.
The fate of Bo Xilai, suspended from his duties within the Chinese Communist Party, which included a member of the Politburo and the Standing Committee candidate, is still not known. The Congress of the CPC, which will take place in October, could decide its exclusion before sending it to justice.
