Turkey: 25 soldiers killed in the explosion of an ammunition depot

Twenty-five soldiers were killed in a violent explosion "of unknown origin" on Wednesday night that destroyed an ammunition depot in the city of Afyon in western Turkey, announced Thursday, 6 September the Turkish army .

"25 soldiers were killed and four wounded," said a statement from the Staff of the Armed published on its website, adding that an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the explosion.

THE TRAIL OF A TERRORIST ATTACK EXCLUDED

"Our pain is great," responded the Minister of Environment and Forests, Veysel Eroglu, the scene of the incident, in statements broadcast on Turkish television channels.

Minister elected in this province, raised the scenario of an "accident" when storing hand grenades and excluded the trail of a "terrorist attack" Kurdish separatist rebels of the Kurdistan Workers Party ( PKK), fighting against the forces of Ankara.

The blast, which occurred around 21 h 15 (20 h 15 Paris time) caused a large fire which was hardly controlled, Eroglu also said. Many grenades were scattered around the deposit by the explosion and the bomb will be defused by the army.
